After a long day of exploring, don’t forget to make reservations at the French Room at The Adolphus hotel. Make sure you come prepared – there is a strict dress code and given how well the other patrons are dressed, you wouldn’t want to feel out of place. There is a tasting menu or you can go with the three course dinner, which gives you a choice of appetizer, main course, and dessert. Everything there is cooked to perfection and you will be treated like royalty by a very attentive staff. Make sure you get the grand marnier soufflé for dessert, you won’t regret it.
If you find yourself at the flagship Nieman Marcus store, go to the 6th floor, where you will find The Zodiac, a gem of a restaurant. The staff there is attentive and most have been with the restaurant for decades! The one thing you cannot miss is the popovers served with strawberry butter. Those popovers are crunchy on the outside and airy on the inside. The popovers arrive warm and the strawberry butter melts instantly upon contact. It is truly an experience that is unparalleled. Unfortunately, one is never enough.
Don’t be distracted by the delicious fresh food and fruits at the Farmers Market and miss the very long line that’s leading to the cash register at Pecan Lodge. The BBQ served here is amazing but be sure to get there early – they sell out of most things by 2pm. Don’t miss the “Hot Mess” – a yam/sweet potato topped with barbacoa, cheese, chipotle sour cream, bacon, and green onions. There’s also a stall serving Chicago dogs and homemade lemonade.
