Food choices for Military Families visiting Fort Leonard Wood

Food Choices for Military Travelers

FortLW , if you’re staying at the Bell’s Extended Stay and Suites, you have a couple of restaurants in close proximity.

Try Culver’s (573-336-2888; 341 Adams Ave, St Robert, MO), best known for their burgers (you can start the debate with your pals on who has the best burgers – In N Out, Five Guys, or Culver’s), fried cheese curds, sweet potato fries, and frozen custard. You have to save some room for the frozen custard, you won’t regret it and will most likely be back for more…

For your Mexican food cravings, try El Jimador (573-336-7555; 220 Marshall Dr, St Robert, MO). Crowd favorites include the fajitas and carnitas. The portions here are large so bring some friends!

If you’re staying at the Comfort Inn, you can’t go wrong with Cracker Barrel Old Country Store (573-336-7273; 128 St Robert Blvd, St Robert, MO) for a huge variety of breakfast items, as well as sandwiches, salads, and all the comforts of home cooking. If you’re looking for huge portions at a reasonable price, this is the place for you! The busiest times are typically weekend mornings, so plan accordingly or be prepared to wait.

Of course, BBQ is another favorite of locals and visitors alike. Then try Sweetwater Bar-B-Que (573-336-8830; 14076 Highway Z, St Robert, MO). You won’t go wrong with their ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, whether as a meal or in a sandwich.

If you’re in the mood to try some Mediterranean or Greek food, you have to stop by Mamma Mia’s (573-336-1200; 101 Comfort Inn Blvd, St Robert, MO) and try their gyros. They offer a huge amount of meat at a great price! If you’re wanting something a bit lighter, you can always go with the Greek salad. The mix of greens with olives, and feta make this salad a refreshing choice on any day.

And finally, a gem where you least expect it… Mizeki Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill (573-336-3399; 198 Old Route 66, St Robert, MO) has a good selection of Japanese food. Try their bento boxes for a complete meal and for those times when you can’t decide on just one item. If you’re in the mood for some sushi, try the sunshine roll or Alaska roll. When in doubt, just look for the specials.
